This website strives to be accurate and complete. It represents a large part of the work I have completed since 1990. Although it is rather vast in scope, there are many pieces in each body of work that are not included. On occasion I accept commissions for private and public collections. The Wandering Alphabet

In The Wandering Alphabet I use my sewing machine as an improvisational tool and chance as a collaborator. Meandering through pre-set alphabets meant to be used in an orderly and meticulous fashion, I intentionally careen off in whatever direction occurs to me in the moment. The result is a line drawing that I could not have planned had I tried. Paired with the asemic writing that results are bits of fabric, outtakes from “failed” pieces, all manner of string, pompoms and bits and bobs that rise up to the surface of my worktable clamoring to be used. I try as much as possible to relinquish control and let my inner intuitive voice guide me. I try not to overwork and let something sit for a while before I add more. The Wandering Alphabet might be a metaphor for the angst I feel about our current global political/ecological/human situation. Or maybe I’m just having a lot of fun. Or maybe, paradoxically, both.
