Since 1995, I have been teaching monthly workshops in my studio in a variety of mixed media techniques and themes. Almost all of the workshops involve the use of recycled materials. Topics have included sewn found photo collage, altered books, book sculpture, book collage, assemblage, sewing and thread, and maps. Workshops are small, fun, informal; no prior art experience is necessary. Concepts and materials form the basis for optional assignments, which serve as a place to begin. My open-ended and flexible approach to teaching makes it possible for everyone to enjoy exploring the use of found or recycled materials in art.
Private one-day or weekend group workshops are availableIf you are part of an art group or have a circle of friends or colleagues who would like to take a workshop together, please contact me to talk about specifics. No prior art experience is necessary.
We are taking a break from workshops this summer. Look for new offerings this fall.
In the meantime enjoy a wonderful and creative summer.

What participants have said about the workshops:
If you want to have loads of fun learning a new technique, whether you have an extensive art background to no background at all, this is the workshop for you. Lisa and Lia were very supportive and helpful regardless of our different levels and didn't seem to find any questions not worthy of their full attention. With a limit of students, we had as much or as little help as we wished. It was relaxed so we could go at our own pace and there was no such thing as insurmountable problems. We all left with completed Solvy work and my confidence has grown so that I won't hesitate to tackle new projects. Sally Doyle, Bay Area, CA
Discovering Lisa's art work was a revelation, going to her website an adventure, and discovering her workshops a goal. Organizing the workshop was easy, like working with a friend. Seven of us made our way to Lisa and Lia's home from San Luis Obispo for a weekend of free motion stitching. Arriving, we were greeted in a glorious garden of Lia's design, surrounded by little doggies and beautiful, meaningful artwork. Our workshop was inspired, well organized and flexible, comfortable and challenging. It was magical and we all look forward to returning. Melinda Forbes, Garden Farms, CA
When I get an email from Lisa Kokin, the happiness begins before I even open it! Anticipating what the workshop might be, if I am able to attend, who else might be there, what materials and techniques will be explored, what I can create under her (and Lia’s) patient guidance, sharing with other makers/artists/minds in her special environment. Working with Lisa has encouraged me to experiment and create. Her workshops are inspiring, interesting and “chock full of fun.” If I could, I would attend every one! Cheryl Ward, San Francisco, CA
I have taken 6 or 7 classes from Lisa Kokin and have always enjoyed them and come away with new techniques and ideas. She limits the class size, so there is plenty of room. There are terrific projects, resources and lots of supplies. Lisa and her partner are really good at critiques. Normally, I’m not especially prolific, but in Lisa’s classes I always finish at least one project and sometimes two. I recommend these classes wholeheartedly. Jennifer Tachera, Sacramento, CA
I have thoroughly enjoyed taking several of Lisa's workshops. Inspiration, plenty of support and an introduction to skills last beyond the duration of the workshop. I encourage people of all skill levels to spend the day creating and learning. Deb Dyer, Point Richmond, CA
